Customizing living spaces

Building means shaping. Structures change our world. The Gotthard Tunnel in Switzerland, roads, bridges, office or residential property, sports facilities and cultural centers such as the Elbe Philharmonic Hall in Hamburg or Madison Square Garden in New York: HOCHTIEF creates space to live. And that for more than 100 years across the whole world.

The experience of our employees forms the basis of HOCHTIEF’s core competency—construction. This comprises the classic construction business and includes services such as, for instance, design, consulting, project controlling, concessions and operation.

Our closely interconnected services and our global network enable top-quality customized solutions to be offered. Hence, together with its subsidiaries and associated companies, HOCHTIEF realizes innovative projects all over the world for both private investors and for the public sector—and these are virtually always unique schemes. For instance, in Los Angeles we are building a stadium which will host the Olympic Games in 2028.

Building construction

Experienced, efficient, inventive

The foundation for HOCHTIEF’s building construction is in Frankfurt, where the company was established. The contract to construct the University of Gießen was our first important building construction order—more than 140 years ago. Since then, we have been turning unique projects into reality. From the skyline in Frankfurt and the Opera House in Prague, skyscrapers like Burj Khalifa in Dubai or The Spiral in New York right through to schools, hotels and residential property.

HOCHTIEF offers services for design, construction and reconstruction of buildings throughout the world. These include office buildings, healthcare properties, sports and cultural facilities. Thanks to regional presence, lean structures and effective processes, we work efficiently and in conformity with the market. With our business models based on partnership, we already advise building construction clients in an early planning phase, if required. Together we can cut construction and operating costs and reduce risks to a minimum at an early stage.

HOCHTIEF belongs to the world’s most important providers of sustainable property. In the USA, our subsidiary Turner is market leader in the area of green building with its offer in Construction Management. In Germany, together with other companies and institutions, we established the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). Hundreds of specialists work in the Group, advising their clients on optimizing and certifying sustainable buildings. That is good for the environment and increases the value of the properties.

Our clients benefit from our technical special proposals, which save time and money. Special HOCHTIEF solutions are incorporated in numerous projects throughout the world. It doesn’t always have to be as sophisticated as “Taipei 101”. In the building in Taiwan, which is more than 500 meters high, we have suspended a steel sphere weighing several hundred tons—to act as an oscillation absorber for protecting against earthquakes and typhoons.

So: We control technically sophisticated projects.

Civil engineering and infrastructure construction

Safe, innovative and cost-efficient

HOCHTIEF projects are unique accompanying schemes for every day: Whether it is in the underground railways of London, New York, Copenhagen or Hamburg. Whether it is at one of the many airports made by HOCHTIEF, whether it is on roads, rail links, in tunnels or on bridges, like in Scandinavia, Istanbul, Edinburgh or Montreal. Our built structures connect and pave the way for a safe and fast route. For example, we are currently building a 15-kilometer-long tunnel through Sydney Harbor. Our everyday work is what is special.

With technical special proposals, we demonstrate that we are able to accelerate sophisticated projects during the course of their implementation and realize them within the budget. On the basis of our globally recognized design and implementation competency with innovative construction methods, we show possibilities which save time and costs.

HOCHTIEF construction projects are technically and economically convincing—and they are sustainable. To enable traffic to flow efficiently, HOCHTIEF realizes transportation projects with state-of-the-art management technology. This enables better traffic flow and relieves the environment.

HOCHTIEF also ranks amongst the most renowned players in the energy sector. We design, construct and modernize all types of power plants. The realization of climate-friendly power plants is just as much part of our core competencies as new construction, modernization and demolition of conventional power plants.

HOCHTIEF's experts offer complex solutions from one source: This begins with project preparation as well as estimate and scheduling right through to conception of the construction site and on-site support during execution.
